ABOUT SONS OF THE GOLDEN WEST
Sons of the Golden West primarily plays Americana, indie rock, alternative country, and singer/songwriter. A six-song EP, “Oh, California!” was released in February 2016, which received college radio airplay, including KALX at U.C. Berkeley.
Music by songwriter Eric Butterfield, who heads up this project, has appeared on more than 250 TV episodes (a partial list appears on the TV Credits page). His song, "Wake Me in Paris," was a semi-finalist in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition (unsigned category) and the 2018 Unsigned Only music contest. An as-yet unreleased song, "In Love With Love" was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Song Of The Year songwriting competition.
Eric is inspired by the variety of the American experience. He can trace his family history to the days of the Mayflower, and also has great grandparents who came through Ellis Island. Eric is a fourth-generation Californian who grew up in the Los Angeles area, absorbing its heritage amidst a rapidly changing landscape.
Travel and relocation have informed much of Eric’s sound. He’s lived in Denver, Colorado, where he discovered a vibrant Americana music scene. He also spent time in Dublin, Ireland, playing power pop with The Mexican Pets, and later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, playing many of the clubs in the area.
Eric’s TV credits include A&E ("Born This Way" and "Preachers Daughters"), NBC ("Last Call with Carson Daly"), MTV ("True Life"), Bravo ("Flipping Out"), Animal Planet, TLC ("NY Ink"), Discovery Channel ("Auction Kings"), CBS College Sports, Madison Square Garden pre-game shows, and an online video narrated by Ashley Judd, "Help Save Idaho's Wolves."
"Eric Butterfield leads this project with a diversity that has been uber-useful to film/TV folks. Easy to imagine his song fragments enhancing any flick."
